AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - Of the four major tournaments in professional golf, only one of them has a home course, and it happens to be in Augusta. With its rich and storied history, it's no wonder one of the most respected sporting events in the world has kept patrons coming back to the Garden City for decades.

The Masters Tournament is called "a tradition unlike any other," and for many patrons visiting Augusta National Golf Club, it's a tradition that spans generations. From fashion to food and even favorite golfers, tradition is rich at Augusta National.

Whether you grew up alongside the world-famous azaleas, or you inherited the most coveted ticket in sports, or you're just getting started with your Masters Tournament legacy, you likely comes to Augusta with some plans in mind.

Pimento cheese sandwiches beckon foodies, shoppers seek the offerings of the pro shop--including the exclusive and somewhat elusive Masters garden gnome--who is becoming a tradition all his own. The design changes annually, but he's always dressed to impress. Fashion, after all, in an important part of the Masters experience.

Avery Barrett, who has been attending the Tournament for several years, brought a friend, Carson Bennett, to see the course for the very first time. The ladies packed plenty of options to wear, and the experienced patron imparted some wisdom for her pal.

"I told Carson, dress comfortabl[y]," says Barrett, "Whatever helps you get through the day."

A day of walking the intricately designed slopes of Augusta National is certainly lends itself to comfortable footwear. Patron Lauren Murphy is a self-proclaimed "sneaker head." She matched her entire green and white outfit to her Nikes for the first round of course cruising.

There's only one piece of fashion that never goes out of style in Augusta.  Patrick O'Looney says the famous and iconic green jacket stands out in the crowds.

Those who don the green jacket are members and Masters Champions, and when it comes to golf's first major of the season, patrons' favorites may be the players on a hot streak, but seemingly just as often, picks are influenced by memories and traditions.

"I'm a big Tiger Woods fan," O'Looney says. "Every year we get to see him is another year we get to cherish him."

Julia Ulmer, an annual visitor to Augusta National Golf Club, says her choice this year is one she has seen play well, and fall short. "I love watching Rory play," she explains. "I've seen him chip in a few excellent shots."

Carson Bryan's favorite? Well, he's a part of a Bryan family tradition. "My dad's a leftie," she says, "so he always followed the lefties around, so [Phil Mickelson] is who I've always followed."

Augusta National Golf Club, of course, has traditions all its own. Perhaps most notably, the world awaits Sunday's famous and highly anticipated green jacket ceremony. Until then, there are new memories to be made during the 88th playing of the Masters.
