The clock is ticking as voters head to the polls Tuesday in Georgia for the runoff elections. Several races will be decided here in the CSRA, including the Richmond County Sheriff's contest.

After forums, press conferences, and campaigning, voters will decide if incumbent Sheriff Richard Roundtree remains in office or if they want challenger Eugene "Gino" Rock Brantley instead.

Both candidates are taking different approaches with voters. Roundtree says his experience and success over the last 12 years speak for themselves, while Brantley has a list of initiatives he plans to implement if elected.

"Our crime rate has consistently dropped for the last 12 years. Gun violence, unfortunately, there's too many illegal guns in the street. That is a nationwide issue, but in Richmond County, overall crime has dropped every year. That's what people lose sight of," expressed Roundtree.

"It's important we have a professional demeanor within our department. That's the only way we can have any meaningful communication and help stop some of the acts of careless violence in our community," explained Brantley.

The polls close at 7 p.m., so if you haven't made it out, you still have time to let your voice be heard in this race.
