AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - A grand opening for a Resource Center in Augusta Thursday morning. Aiding those with Alzheimer, and other related Dementia.

Located on Washington Rd, the non-profit Via Cognitive Health, now on a five acre lot.

“We are so excited that we are finally opening the doors on this new, beautiful campus for Via Cognitive Health. We are going to be able to help so many families here that are living with dementia, caregivers struggling with the next steps, and individuals who are newly diagnosed,” said Jennifer Pennington, Via Cognitive Health Executive Director.

It's a condition that impacts families all across the CSRA.

“Right now, in the Augusta community there is an estimated 10,000 people living with Dementia”

And thousands more across both Georgia and South Carolina

“We are honored to have this facility here. One of the biggest worries is for a loved one to have to deal with the cognitive decline of a parent or elder,” said Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson.

The facility offers counseling and resources for family members going through the pain of a loved one's memory fading.

The goal of Via Cognitive Health:

“Unfortunately there is no cure for Alzheimer. Our goal is to keep the mind and the body active. To use the faculties that you still have, and things that are special to you,” said Janet McKnight, Via Cognitive Health Board Member.

The facility includes a dance and exercise studio, mini golfing, a tool shop, indoor track, art room, salon, spa, game room, conference room and cafeteria.
