AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - In the CSRA, young minds are eagerly diving into the world of cyber defense and security careers at the Cyber Patriots Summer Camp, hosted by the Alliance for Fort Eisenhower.

Touted as one of the largest of its kind in the country, this camp is more than just a summer activity—it's a gateway to a future in cyber security for over 200 enthusiastic attendees.

The camp offers a unique opportunity for 6th-12th grade students to immerse themselves in the fundamentals of cyber security.

Lead instructor Dave Besle emphasizes the practical aspects: "They get to learn a lot of the technical fundamentals of what you need to do in cyber security."

Participants are taught essential skills such as system lockdowns and identifying vulnerabilities that hackers might exploit. This hands-on approach not only educates but also empowers young learners to protect systems and data from potential cyber threats.

What sets this camp apart is its tailored curriculum, designed to cater to the interests and needs of each student. Whether they are beginners or have some prior experience, campers delve into topics ranging from basic code commands to advanced system defenses.

Rivers Guidry, a 7th-grade camper, explains, "We’re learning some basic code commands, how to add and delete users through the command line." This practical knowledge not only enhances technical skills but also prepares them for real-world scenarios in cyber security.

For many campers like Kensley Robinson and Rivers Guidry, the camp catalyzes future career aspirations.

Kensley shares his journey: "I went to the standard camp, and I really liked that... So, my dad signed me up for the advanced." The camp aims not only to educate but also to inspire young minds to pursue careers in cyber security and other STEM disciplines.

Dr. Tom Clark, Executive Director of the Alliance for Fort Eisenhower, explains the broader impact: "We hope that they join the cyber workforce and get jobs... They can be at ADP protecting the pay of folks."

By exposing students to the possibilities within the cyber security field, the camp aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in this critical industry.

The Alliance for Fort Eisenhower says it promotes, coordinates, and advocates for the “Fort Eisenhower Cyber District” to stimulate investment in cyber growth and capitalize on opportunities for the benefit of all.
